The fairy collection- line of garments- takes us to an extraordinary trip in the world of fairy tales.
For this collection, Annabelle Fleury got inspired by mythical and fantastic creatures found in legends, tales and myths. The main idea of this present collection has to do with princesses and fairies, but also with nymphs, elves, goddesses, ogres, giants, dwarves, witches and sprites.
A lot of fantastic stories in which you can meet with magical creatures, dangerous animals or mysterious beings have forests in them. And with her collection, Annabelle Fleury draws her inspiration from dryads, who are the keepers and guardians of the forest. This mythical creature, half woman and half tree, was pictured as a woman whose lower part of the body ended in arabesque shapes, reminding us of the trunks and roots of a tree. The designer recalls this interlacing pattern in her collection through the use of interweaving on her dresses and jackets.
Annabelle Fleury also creates a fluid and elegant line through the use of curving sweeps, evoking the fluid dresses worn by elves or goddesses. Thus, the jackets of this collection are adorned with soft and delicate drapes, which can also be found on the dresses in a clever play with layers.
In the magical world of fairy tales, rules and codes are upside down. Reality, as we know it, is out of place as magical and fictional characters invade the world. The proportions of the body are distorted and features are oversized. We all remember Pinocchio’s nose getting longer with each of his lies, the incredible length of Rapunzel’s hair, the unbelievable height of the giant in Little Tom Thumb or the dwarves from Snow White. Annabelle Fleury chooses to draw her inspiration from these disproportionate characters to design garments with exaggerated volume and loose fits. The collection is thus comprised of outfits with wide bat sleeves, kimono sleeves, asymmetrical patterns, distorted borders at the base of one same dress, and a jacket with disproportionate lapels.
With this collection, Annabelle Fleury takes us to the magical and enchanting world of fantasy and fairies. Fantastic stories and tales are pack-filled with treasures that sweep us in a world of dreams and magic, which endlessly fascinate everyone, children and grown-ups alike.
